The Execution of Precious Memories

The Execution of Precious Memories is an international performance project conceived by Blixa Bargeld that began in Berlin in 1994 as a project that would ultimately span the world. Since then works have been created and performed in collaboration with prominent local artists in Tokyo, Osaka, Buenos Aires, Stockholm, Yaoundé, London, New Delhi, Kraków, and now San Francisco. This incarnation marks the most ambitious installment of the project to date, involving three separate disciplines and over a dozen artists.

Your responses to the attached questionnaire will serve as the material used to develop this piece. The project invites the community to participate in the creation of this artistic work, contributing their unique memories, impressions, and intimacies.

Precious memories are being gathered locally in the San Francisco Bay Area, and then transformed through a poetic process into a performance for the stage as a collaboration between Blixa Bargeld, music ensemble Nanos Operetta, and dance theater company KUNST-STOFF.

Blixa Bargeld is a composer, vocalist, musician, author, actor, and lecturer in a number of artistic fields. Best known as the founder of German experimental rock group Einstürzende Neubauten and idiosyncratic guitarist of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, his enormous body of work over the last 30 years has been hugely influential worldwide. Bargeld founded Einstürzende Neubauten in 1980, which along with groups Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire laid the foundation of the Industrial music movement. While these have been his principle outlets Bargeld has been involved in numerous theatrical, spoken word, and film projects. blixa-bargeld.com

Yannis Adoniou’s KUNST–STOFF is a San Francisco based, Goldie award winning, contemporary dance company that has been creating eclectic movement-focused art experiences in the Bay Area for the past 10 years. kunst-stoff.org

Nanos Operetta is a new music ensemble that utilizes unconventional and culturally diverse instrumentation and found objects, incorporating elements of film music, ethnic music, modern chamber, minimalism, and the avant-garde to create conceptual and collaborative works. nanosoperetta.com
